Wed Mar 19 09:12:08 UTC 2025: ## Algerian Boxer Defiant After Trump’s Transgender Sports Ban
**Los Angeles, CA** – Imane Khelif, the Algerian boxer who won gold at the Paris Olympics amidst a gender eligibility controversy, has vowed to defend her title at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, defiantly dismissing criticism from US President Donald Trump.
Trump, who recently signed an executive order banning transgender women from female sports in the US, referred to Khelif as “a male boxer.” However, Khelif, in an interview with ITV, stated unequivocally, “I am not transgender. This does not concern me, and it does not intimidate me.”
Khelif’s participation in Paris followed her disqualification from the 2023 World Championships by the International Boxing Association (IBA) due to a gender eligibility test. However, the IBA’s subsequent loss of Olympic recognition allowed Khelif to compete, a decision the IOC strongly defended against considerable criticism.
The IOC’s executive board recently recommended boxing’s inclusion in the 2028 Games, a decision Khelif enthusiastically welcomed. She expressed her determination to secure a second gold medal in Los Angeles, stating, “I will defend with everything this gold medal.”
Khelif’s comments come amidst ongoing debate surrounding the participation of transgender and DSD athletes in women’s sports, a key issue in the upcoming IOC presidential elections. She expressed hope that the next president will prioritize sportsmanship and fair play. She added, referencing the controversy surrounding her eligibility, “As we say in Algeria, those who have nothing to hide should have no fear.” The IOC is expected to give final approval to boxing’s inclusion at its session in Greece.
