**Thiruvananthapuram, February 12, 2025** – Kerala’s tourism sector is experiencing a phenomenal surge, with tourist arrivals reaching a record 2.22 crore in 2024. This represents a significant 21% increase compared to pre-pandemic levels, according to Tourism and Public Works Minister P. A. Mohamed Riyas. The Minister announced this positive news during Friday’s State Assembly Question Hour, highlighting the state’s consistent growth in tourist numbers over the past few years.

To further boost the sector, the government is launching the K-Homes project. This initiative, announced in the 2025-26 state budget, aims to increase accommodation options by utilizing unoccupied homes near popular tourist destinations. The project will initially focus on Kovalam, Kumarakom, Munnar, and Fort Kochi, within a 10km radius of each location, offering online booking facilities. The Minister emphasized that K-Homes will not only expand accommodation but also provide tourists with an authentic cultural experience, enhancing their stay and contributing to the growth of the hospitality sector. Kerala already boasts a substantial number of five-star hotels and premium accommodations, complemented by government rest houses offering budget-friendly options.
