**Tehran, Iran –** Iran has lifted its import ban on luxury goods, including high-end vehicles and iPhones, in a move aimed at appeasing public demand and boosting the struggling economy. The decision comes as the country grapples with international sanctions and a plummeting rial.

The lifting of the ban allows Iranians to purchase goods previously unavailable, like the latest iPhone 16 Pro Max, which costs a hefty 1.6 billion rials ($1,880) plus import fees. While celebrated by some, like 19-year-old Amirhossein Azizi who purchased the phone, critics point out the move primarily benefits the wealthy.

The previous ban, implemented as part of Iran’s “resistance economy,” forced citizens to rely on domestically produced vehicles often criticized for their poor quality and safety, dubbed “death wagons.” It also inflated prices for secondhand iPhones.
