**Bengaluru, January 18, 2025** – Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) announced a fare hike effective January 20th, following the approval of a proposal by its board on Friday. The new fare structure, based on recommendations from the Fare Fixation Committee (FFC), will be announced shortly.

The FFC, an independent body, conducted a comprehensive review of operational costs, including passenger consultations and expert input, before submitting its report. While specifics of the new fares haven’t been released, sources indicate a significant increase.

Bengaluru Central MP P.C. Mohan expressed strong disapproval, stating his disappointment with the reported 45% hike and urging reconsideration. He warned that the increase could worsen traffic congestion as commuters switch to private vehicles. Currently, fares range from ₹10 to ₹60, with a 5% discount for smart card users.
