**Mumbai, India** – Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was stabbed multiple times during a home invasion at his Mumbai apartment early Thursday morning. Khan, along with his wife Kareena Kapoor, and their two sons, were home at the time of the attack.
According to police, a 35-40 year old man with a slim build and dark complexion broke into the 12th-floor apartment. The intruder, described as being approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and wearing dark clothing and a cap, was first spotted by the family’s nanny, Eliyama Philips. Ms. Philips encountered the man on the 11th floor and later in her charge’s bedroom where he demanded ₹1 crore (approximately $121,000 USD). When she attempted to intervene, the attacker, armed with a wooden stick and a knife, stabbed Saif Ali Khan.
Khan suffered injuries to his spine, hand and neck. He underwent surgery at Lilavati Hospital and is reported to be out of danger. A 2.5-inch piece of the knife blade was removed from his spine.
The attacker fled the scene, but was later seen near Bandra railway station. Police believe he may have used the building’s service shafts and stairs to escape undetected by lobby security cameras. While a suspect was briefly detained, police have confirmed he is not the attacker. A massive manhunt involving 20 police teams is underway. Police have registered a case under sections of robbery, trespassing, and grievous hurt. Ms. Philips has stated she would recognize the attacker if she saw him again.
