Mon Jan 06 13:38:14 UTC 2025: ## AI Deepfake Images of Shah Rukh Khan, Family in Mecca Go Viral; Proven Fake

**Mumbai, India** – A recent surge of AI-generated images depicting Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, his wife Gauri, and son Aryan at Mecca’s Grand Mosque has sparked widespread online discussion and concern. The images, which first circulated around the New Year, falsely claimed the family visited the holy city on January 1st.

Several news outlets and social media platforms rapidly disseminated the photos, leading to considerable engagement. However, it has since been confirmed that the images are deepfakes, created using artificial intelligence technology. Several Instagram accounts explicitly identified the images as AI-generated.

This incident highlights the growing global problem of deepfake technology, particularly the creation of non-consensual pornography targeting celebrities. Similar deepfake videos have previously circulated online involving other Indian celebrities, including Rashmika Mandana, Katrina Kaif, and Aamir Khan, as well as numerous public figures in the UK and other countries.

The incident involving Shah Rukh Khan serves as a stark reminder of the potential for AI-generated content to spread misinformation and cause harm. While some initially believed the images to be genuine, the quick identification of the images as deepfakes underscores the need for media literacy and critical evaluation of online content.

Gauri Khan previously addressed the topic of religious tolerance in their marriage during an appearance on Karan Johar’s “Koffee With Karan” in 2005, emphasizing mutual respect for each other’s beliefs. Shah Rukh Khan has also publicly praised his wife’s influence on their family.
