Mon Jan 06 10:32:29 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Election Heats Up: AAP’s Hindutva Pivot Challenges BJP’s Dominance

**New Delhi –** The upcoming Delhi elections are shaping up to be a fierce contest between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with both engaged in a high-stakes campaign. While the BJP aims for a return to power after three decades, and Congress hopes to make inroads, AAP seeks a third consecutive victory despite facing significant challenges.

AAP, facing accusations of corruption and ten years of incumbency, has launched a bold strategy. They’ve unveiled a series of new schemes, including a monthly honorarium for temple priests and gurudwara granthis, positioning themselves as a pro-Hindu party to counter BJP’s dominance on the issue. This move, described by some strategists as a “zero-risk” approach, aims to consolidate minority support while appealing to a broader Hindu base. However, this strategy also risks alienating its core supporters and backfiring.

This has put the BJP on the defensive, forcing them to consider similar policies and sparking a war of words over allegations of temple demolitions in Delhi. The BJP, lacking a prominent chief ministerial candidate, is reportedly focusing on a hyper-local, seat-by-seat campaign strategy.

AAP’s campaign also acknowledges shortcomings in fulfilling previous promises, including improvements in air quality, road construction, and Yamuna cleaning. Their recent win in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections has also amplified concerns of anti-incumbency, as they can no longer blame the BJP for civic issues.

Political analysts suggest that while AAP’s aggressive campaign is setting the agenda, the BJP risks losing focus on exploiting existing anti-incumbency against the ruling party. The election outcome remains uncertain, with AAP’s Hindutva pivot presenting both opportunities and risks in a battle for Delhi’s political landscape.
