**Kozhikode, Kerala – December 26, 2024** – The Malayalam film industry is in mourning following the death of renowned screenwriter, director, and producer M.T. Vasudevan Nair, popularly known as MT, on December 25th. Leading figures from the industry, including Mammootty, Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, and Kamal Haasan, paid their respects to the Jnanpith awardee, whose contributions to Indian literature and cinema are unparalleled.

Mohanlal, recalling his collaborations with MT, described the experience as an “unparalleled privilege,” highlighting the memorable characters MT created for him. Mammootty, in a heartfelt Facebook post, expressed a profound sense of loss, stating that “finding a place in MT’s heart is the greatest blessing of my career.” Kamal Haasan, a longtime friend who worked with MT on films like *Kanyakumari* and *Manorathangal*, mourned the loss of a mentor and friend, highlighting their fifty-year friendship. Manju Warrier described MT as a father figure, cherishing memories of his generosity and the impact of his writing on her career.

MT’s legacy extends beyond his seven directorial ventures. He penned scripts for approximately 54 films, many considered classics, including *Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha*, *Kadavu*, and *Sadayam*. His work garnered four National Film Awards for Best Screenplay, a record in Malayalam cinema. His directorial debut, *Nirmalyam* (1973), won the National Award for Best Feature Film. His contributions extended to documentaries, songs, and a TV series.
