HYDERABAD, INDIA – Telugu film star Allu Arjun was released from Chanchalguda Jail on Sunday morning, following his arrest and subsequent interim bail in connection with a stampede at a Hyderabad movie theater.

Arjun was arrested Friday afternoon after a woman died in a crush of people attending the premiere of the film *Pushpa 2* at Sandhya Theater on December 4th. He was charged under sections 105 and 118(1) read with 3(5) of the B.N.S. Act. The police initially remanded him for 14 days, but the Telangana High Court granted him interim bail on Saturday night. Although the bail order was received late, Arjun was released from the rear gate of the jail Sunday morning and escorted home.

The High Court’s decision cited similar cases like the Arnab Goswami and Bhajanlal cases in granting the interim bail. The court also noted a request from the Sandhya Theater management for security arrangements given the actor’s arrival, a request approved by the police. The court specified that the investigation could continue and that Arjun and the theater owners should cooperate with the police.

Following his release, Arjun went to the Geetha Arts office before proceeding home, where he was greeted by his family. His release brought relief to his family and numerous fans who had gathered outside the jail since Saturday night anticipating his release. A large crowd of supporters also gathered near his home upon his return. Eighteen people are named as accused in the Sandhya Theater stampede incident; Arjun is listed as accused number 11. Two owners of Sandhya Theater were also granted interim bail.
