Fri Dec 13 10:04:49 UTC 2024: ## Congress Condemns BJP’s Actions in Parliament, Accuses Party of Humiliating Kharge
**New Delhi, December 13, 2024** – Congress leaders today strongly condemned the BJP for what they described as an attempt to humiliate Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, calling it a “black chapter” in Indian democracy. The accusations followed a day of uproar and disruptions in Parliament, largely centered around a no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Congress MP Randeep Surjewala criticized the BJP and Rajya Sabha Chairman, alleging a conspiracy to target Mr. Kharge, a Dalit and farmer, to avoid discussion on the Adani issue. He stated that the BJP’s actions are an attempt to “crush democracy under a bulldozer.”
Similar sentiments were echoed by other Congress leaders. Rajeev Shukla highlighted the BJP’s hypocrisy in creating a ruckus while simultaneously making accusations against Mr. Kharge. Pramod Tiwari accused the BJP of having an anti-Dalit and anti-farmer mindset, linking the alleged disrespect to Mr. Kharge to a deliberate avoidance of debating the Adani matter.
The INDIA bloc, which submitted a no-confidence motion against the Rajya Sabha Chairman on December 10th, held a joint press conference reiterating their commitment to safeguarding democracy and the Constitution. They argued that the disruptions are a tactic to prevent discussion on crucial issues.
The Rajya Sabha remained dysfunctional throughout Friday due to the ongoing tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition INDIA bloc, underscoring the deep political divisions in the Indian Parliament. The Winter Session, which began November 25th, continues until December 20th.
