CHENNAI, INDIA – December 15, 2023 – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced the formation of a new low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal on December 16th. Private meteorologist Hemachandran predicts that a cyclonic circulation will develop over the South Andaman Sea tomorrow, moving west-northwest over the next 48 hours to become a low-pressure area. This system is expected to intensify further as it moves west, reaching the southwest Bay of Bengal by December 16th. There is a possibility of it developing into a deep depression or even a cyclonic storm, though it’s anticipated to weaken gradually as it continues its trajectory.
This developing low-pressure area is expected to bring widespread rainfall across Tamil Nadu, with intensified showers predicted for the north coastal and delta districts on December 17th and 18th. Residents are advised to monitor weather updates closely.
