Fri Nov 01 17:47:15 UTC 2024: ## Modi Accuses Congress of “Fake Promises” Ahead of Maharashtra, Jharkhand Polls

**New Delhi:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing them of making “fake promises” to voters ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. Modi claims the party is “badly exposed” for pledging goals they “will never be able to deliver.”

Modi’s comments stem from Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s recent directive urging state units to make only budgeted promises to avoid fiscal strain, following reports of financial difficulties in Congress-led states.

“The Congress party is realising the hard way that making unreal promises is easy but implementing them properly is tough or impossible,” Modi stated on X (formerly Twitter), alleging that the party is misleading people with unfulfilled pledges.

Modi highlighted the fiscal health and development status of Congress-ruled states like Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana, claiming their development trajectory and fiscal health are deteriorating. He also pointed to delayed salaries in Himachal Pradesh and promised loan waivers yet to be fulfilled in Telangana.

“Previously, in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan they promised certain allowances which were never implemented for five years,” Modi stated, providing examples of Congress’s alleged non-delivery on promises.

Modi urged voters to reject the “Congress-sponsored culture of fake promises” and vote for a government that is “stable, progress-oriented and action-driven.” He also accused Congress of “terrible deceit” in not delivering on promises, which he said harms the poor, youth, farmers, and women.

The Maharashtra Assembly polls will be held on November 20, while Jharkhand will go to polls in two phases on November 13 and November 20. The counting of votes for both states will take place on November 23.
