Wed Oct 16 12:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Kerala Government Reverses Decision: Spot Bookings at Sabarimala to Continue Alongside Virtual Queue
**Thiruvananthapuram, October 15, 2024:** The Kerala government has reversed its decision to rely solely on the virtual queue system for Sabarimala pilgrimage, assuring continued availability of spot bookings. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced this in the state assembly, addressing concerns raised by MLA V. Joy.
While affirming the government’s commitment to strengthening the virtual queue system, the CM acknowledged the need for a more inclusive system. “We understand that not all devotees are familiar with online registration or have access to it,” he said. To cater to these pilgrims, the government will ensure seamless darshan for those who arrive without prior online booking.
The decision comes after a review meeting, aimed at providing a safe and convenient pilgrimage experience. The virtual queue system, modeled after successful implementations at other pilgrimage sites like Tirupati, has been operational at Sabarimala since 2011.
Further refinements to the virtual queue system are underway. This includes incorporating the path choice of pilgrims and enabling them to select less crowded days for their visit. Daily booking numbers will be shared with the district administration and police for better management.
This move is expected to address concerns raised by devotees and provide a more accessible pilgrimage experience at Sabarimala.
