Tue Sep 10 00:22:57 UTC 2024: ## China-Africa Trade Soars Despite Export Dip, FOCAC Summit Emphasizes Partnership
**Beijing, September 6** – China-Africa trade has seen a significant rise in the first eight months of 2023, reaching $192.44 billion, according to China’s General Administration of Customs. While exports from China to Africa decreased by 2.1% to $112.97 billion, imports from Africa to China surged by 10.4% to $79.47 billion, indicating a growing demand for African products in the Chinese market.
This positive trend comes on the heels of the recently concluded 9th Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in Beijing, which brought together leaders from 53 African countries. The summit served as a platform to strengthen the China-Africa partnership and address shared global challenges such as poverty, climate change, and economic inequality.
During the summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping highlighted Beijing’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Africa in various sectors, including industry, agriculture, infrastructure construction, trade, and investment. He emphasized the importance of mutually beneficial cooperation as a path towards long-term prosperity for both continents.
The positive trade figures and the renewed commitment to cooperation signal a continued strengthening of the China-Africa partnership. The increasing demand for African goods in China suggests a shift towards a more balanced trade relationship, while the FOCAC summit sets the stage for further collaboration on key global challenges.
