Coimbatore Police Recover 1.15 Kg of Gold, Arrest Two in Goldsmithery Burglary

Coimbatore, India – December 8, 2025 – Coimbatore police have apprehended two individuals suspected of a major gold theft at a goldsmithery on Samy Iyer Street. S. Murugan, 45, of Kanuvai, and T. Chinnadurai, 32, of Thoothukudi, were arrested on Monday and are accused of stealing 1.15 kg of gold ornaments from Navaneethakrishnan’s goldsmithery in Vadavalli.

The burglary occurred early Sunday morning, after the shop had closed at 11 p.m. Saturday. A local resident alerted the owner to the break-in around 8 a.m. Sunday.

Inspector Bhaskaran led the investigation, which resulted in the identification of the suspects through surveillance footage. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore South, G. Karthikeyan, confirmed the arrest and the complete recovery of the stolen gold.

Murugan has a prior burglary case against him, while Chinnadurai has three previous bookings in Thoothukudi.

Following the incident, Mr. Karthikeyan urged all goldsmithery proprietors in Coimbatore to increase security measures, specifically recommending the installation of iron-grill doors and strategically placed surveillance cameras. The investigation is ongoing.
