The Delhi High Court has ordered electricity providers to connect disputed or sealed properties in Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) celebrated the decision, stating it had passed the original proposal while in power in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). AAP accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which controlled the MCD from 2007-2022, of sealing homes and preventing connections. AAP highlighted its previous efforts to secure water connections for these properties. The BJP responded by alleging AAP profited from supplying stolen electricity to these properties and questioned why they hadn’t instructed power companies earlier if they could instruct the Delhi Jal Board to provide water.

Delhi High Court Greenlights Electricity for Disputed Properties, Sparking Political Clash

New Delhi, November 21, 2025 – The Delhi High Court has issued a landmark order mandating electricity connections to disputed or sealed properties across the city, triggering a swift and heated exchange between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

AAP celebrated the decision, with senior leader Durgesh Pathak crediting a proposal passed by the party when it held power in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Pathak accused the BJP, which controlled the MCD for 15 years, of sealing approximately 150,000 homes, preventing residents from accessing essential services. He also highlighted the AAP-led Delhi Jal Board’s 2021-22 initiative to provide water connections to all properties, including those in unauthorized colonies and disputed areas. He went on to say the MCD House passed a unanimous resolution on February 26, 2024, to provide electricity connections in the same manner.

“We thank the Delhi High Court for taking cognizance of our proposal,” Pathak stated at a press conference.

The BJP has vehemently refuted AAP’s claims, alleging that the party profited from illegally supplying stolen electricity to these very same properties. Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor questioned why AAP didn’t instruct power companies to provide electricity connections earlier if it had the power to instruct the Delhi Jal Board on water connections. “There was collusion between AAP leaders and officials of private power companies,” Kapoor alleged. “Together, they used to supply stolen electricity… and earn crores from this illegal business.”

The ruling mandates BSES Rajdhani, BSES Yamuna, and Tata Power to provide the connections. The implications of this decision for residents of Delhi and the ongoing political fallout remain to be seen.
