**Kochi, India – June 20, 2025** – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Moideenabha Ummer Beary, a key suspect in the 2013 Kasaragod fake currency case, following his extradition from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Beary had been in the custody of UAE authorities since 2015.

The NIA team took Beary into custody upon his arrival at Mumbai airport from Dubai on Friday. He was subsequently transported to Kochi and presented before the NIA Special Court in Ernakulam.

According to an NIA statement, the agency had previously revoked Beary’s Indian passport and issued an Interpol Red Notice against him in 2013, following the seizure of counterfeit Indian currency with a face value of ₹31 lakh from various locations in Kasaragod.

Investigations revealed that Beary, a native of Udupi district in Karnataka, conspired with others to obtain the high-quality counterfeit currency from the UAE. The currency was then allegedly smuggled into India through Bengaluru by another accused, Usman, and subsequently circulated in Kasaragod district.

The NIA has filed chargesheets against six individuals in connection with the case, including Beary.
