Tue Mar 11 15:38:43 UTC 2025: ## Mysuru Zoo Implements Strict Measures Amidst Bird Flu Scare

**Mysuru, March 11, 2025** – The century-old Mysuru Zoo has implemented stringent biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of bird flu, extending precautions to the Karanji Lake Nature Park and the Koorgalli Animal Rescue Centre. Zoo Executive Director Rangaswamy stated that preparedness is in place to combat the spread of communicable diseases among captive animals.

Enhanced disinfection protocols are now in effect at all entrances, including designated disinfectant paths for staff, vehicles, and materials. Foot dips have been installed at entry points for both staff and visitors, as well as at animal enclosures. Zookeepers are undergoing mandatory hand sanitization procedures and receiving training to identify abnormal animal behavior. Any unusual occurrences will be immediately monitored by veterinarians.

Personnel at Karanji Lake Nature Park have been instructed to report any unusual bird deaths. Fecal samples from captive and migratory birds will be regularly tested. Live poultry brought to the zoo undergo rigorous veterinary examinations before being processed and served to animals. The zoo recommends sourcing processed chicken from reputable suppliers to minimize risk.

A Rapid Response Team (RRT) comprising veterinarians, lab technicians, and keepers is on standby to manage any outbreak. In case of an emergency, movement restrictions within the zoo will be implemented, and staff will be prohibited from visiting poultry farms, bird sanctuaries, or other zoos. These comprehensive measures aim to protect both the zoo’s animals and visitors from the bird flu threat.
