**MINNEAPOLIS, MN** – The Minnesota Vikings have made their first splash in NFL free agency, signing former Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts cornerback Isaiah Rodgers to a two-year, $15 million contract, $8 million of which is fully guaranteed. The deal, announced by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, addresses a key need for the Vikings’ secondary.
Rodgers, 27, brings significant experience despite missing the entire 2023 season due to an NFL gambling suspension. He was reinstated and subsequently contributed to the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory. Prior to his suspension, Rodgers, a sixth-round pick in 2020, started nine games for the Colts in 2022 and consistently earned high grades from Pro Football Focus (PFF) for his coverage skills. He’s known for his ability to play outside cornerback despite his 5’10”, 170-pound frame. His playoff performance last year further showcased his talent, where he allowed just five receptions for 108 yards on 11 targets.
The Vikings were in need of cornerback depth with Byron Murphy Jr., Stephon Gilmore, and Shaq Griffin all becoming unrestricted free agents. The signing of Rodgers, along with Mekhi Blackmon, provides a solid foundation in the secondary, though the team is expected to continue adding to the position group. This move comes as other top cornerbacks, Carlton Davis and D.J. Reed, have already signed elsewhere.
Rodgers’ signing marks a significant addition for the Vikings, and he is expected to play a major role in their defense in the upcoming season.
