**Swansea, Wales –** A 50-year-old man, Richard Jones, has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum 20-year term for the murder of his son’s girlfriend, Sophie Evans. Jones was found guilty at Swansea Crown Court in January following a trial.
Evans, who was found naked and face down in her kitchen on July 5th, 2024, after dropping her children off at school, was strangled by Jones. The court heard that Jones falsely believed Evans had defrauded him financially.
Following the murder, Jones contacted his ex-partner, claiming he had “sorted the problem” with Evans. Judge Geraint Walters described Jones’ actions as a loss of temper escalating to sustained violence culminating in strangulation, followed by a calm departure from the scene.
Senior crown prosecutor Abul Hussain stated that the jury’s verdict was based on evidence presented, including testimony from two psychiatrists, concluding that Jones bore full responsibility for his actions. Jones’ son, Jamie Davies, expressed his devastation, calling his father’s actions “unforgivable” and lamenting the loss of his future wife. Davies stated that he and Evans had trusted Jones and never suspected him of being capable of such violence.
