**UDHAGAMANDALAM, February 3, 2025** – The annual pruning of rose plants at the Government Rose Garden in Udhagamandalam, a popular tourist destination in the Nilgiris district, commenced on Monday. Nilgiris District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Thanneeru officially inaugurated the work, signaling the start of preparations for the upcoming 20th annual rose show.

The garden, which attracts between 9 and 10 lakh visitors annually, boasts an impressive collection of 32,000 rose plants encompassing 4,201 varieties from around the globe. New varieties were added in 2024 to further enhance the garden’s biodiversity.

This year’s rose show, scheduled for May to coincide with the peak tourist season, promises to be spectacular. Over 2.5 lakh flower seedlings have been planted for display, according to a press release from the district administration. The Joint Director of Horticulture and other officials were present at the inauguration.
