**KOCHI, January 17, 2025** – Rithu Jayan, 27, has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody after allegedly murdering three members of a family and critically injuring a fourth in Chendamangalam panchayat, Kerala. The attack, which occurred Thursday evening, reportedly stemmed from an offensive comment made about Jayan’s sister.
Jayan, armed with an iron pipe, allegedly targeted 35-year-old Jithin, who remains on life support after emergency neurosurgery. Three other family members were killed attempting to intervene. All victims suffered head injuries.
The Vadakkekara police presented Jayan to the North Paravur Judicial First Class Magistrate Court 1 on Friday. A forensic team and dog squad examined the crime scene and Jayan’s residence. A special police team, led by Munambam Deputy Superintendent of Police S. Jayakrishnan, is investigating under the supervision of District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) Vaibhav Saxena. Police plan to seek further custody on Saturday.
Jayan has a criminal record, including a prior arrest under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in Thrissur.
