**NEW DELHI, January 18, 2025** – A new exhibition, “Shringar: The Divine Art of Pichwai,” featuring the works of renowned Pichwai artist Shehzad Ali Sherani, is currently underway at the Shridharani Gallery in Delhi. The exhibition, presented by culture-tech platform MeMeraki, offers a unique glimpse into the centuries-old Rajasthani art form.
Sherani, a 14th-generation artist from Kishangarh, Rajasthan, is celebrated for his mastery of Pichwai, a traditional style of painting depicting scenes from the life of Lord Krishna. His work seamlessly blends classic Pichwai elements with influences from the Kishangarh school of miniature painting, creating a unique aesthetic. Sherani’s paintings, rendered in natural colors and real gold and silver leaf, have garnered him numerous accolades, including the State Award and the Rajasthan Lalit Kala Akademi Award. His commitment to the traditional techniques is evident in his use of naturally sourced pigments made from flowers, vermillion, tea, and even ashes.
The exhibition showcases both traditional and contemporary Pichwai pieces, including depictions of iconic scenes like the Raas Leela and Govardhan Dharan. Curator Misha highlights Sherani’s distinctive stylistic choices, including the portrayal of women with “lotus-bud eyes, arched eyebrows, and almost transparent dupattas,” and his detailed rendering of water bodies and architecture.
The exhibition also includes works by other master artists from the Kishangarh school, offering a comprehensive exploration of Rajasthani painting traditions. Visitors can further engage with the art form through hands-on workshops.
Sherani, known as “Bhaiyya ji,” considers his art a form of meditation and service to Lord Krishna. He emphasized the deep spiritual connection required to create authentic Pichwai, noting that “Until an artist loves Lord Krishna with all his heart, he cannot paint like that.” His dedication and passion have also inspired his son, Faizaan Ali, to become a Pichwai artist as well.
The exhibition runs until January 21st at the Shridharani Gallery, Triveni Kala Sangam, Mandi House, from 11 am to 7 pm.
