Fri Jan 17 15:48:44 UTC 2025: ## New Flyover Project Launched in Thiruvananthapuram to Ease Traffic Congestion
**THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, January 17, 2025** – Construction has begun on a ₹30.5 crore flyover project in Venjaramoodu, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion on the busy MC Road. Public Works and Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas officially inaugurated the project on Saturday.
The flyover will be 10.5 meters wide, complemented by 5.5-meter-wide service roads and 1.5-meter footpaths on each side. Minister Riyas emphasized the project’s significance, stating it was crucial not only for Thiruvananthapuram but for the entire state. He highlighted the severe traffic issues at Venjaramoodu Junction, a particularly congested area on the MC Road.
The Minister cited Kerala’s high population and vehicle density (163 lakh vehicles on the road last year) as contributing factors to the congestion. He also touted the state government’s achievement of completing the construction of 100 bridges in just three-and-a-half years, ahead of the five-year target. Further plans include transforming major junctions across Kerala and completing the six-laning of NH-66 from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram by December. Minister Riyas also underscored the state government’s key role in national highway development within Kerala.
