Fri Jan 17 09:46:59 UTC 2025: ## UGC Suspends Three Rajasthan Universities from Offering PhD Programs for Five Years

**New Delhi, India** – The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a five-year ban on three Rajasthan universities from enrolling PhD students, effective from the 2025-2030 academic year. The affected universities are OPJS University (Churu), Sunrise University (Alwar), and Singhania University (Jhunjhunu).

The UGC’s decision follows an investigation by its Standing Committee, formed to monitor adherence to PhD regulations. The committee found that the three universities failed to comply with UGC guidelines and academic norms for awarding PhD degrees, despite being given an opportunity to explain their shortcomings. The UGC deemed their responses unsatisfactory.

The notification explicitly warns prospective students and parents against enrolling in PhD programs at these universities. Any PhD degrees awarded by these institutions during the ban period will not be recognized for higher education or employment purposes. The universities have been instructed to immediately cease enrolling new PhD candidates.
