Fri Jan 17 08:42:40 UTC 2025: ## Sakat Chauth 2025 Observed Across India

**Indore, India** – Sakat Chauth, a significant Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Ganesha, was observed on January 17th, 2025. Devotees across India performed puja (worship) to seek blessings for their children’s well-being and longevity. Also known as Til Chauth, the festival involves a day-long fast broken in the evening after offering prayers to the moon.

The fast is believed to grant the devotee’s wishes for progeny and relief from difficulties. Pandit G.C. Sharma emphasized the importance of the ritual, detailing the proper methods of worship including purifying the prayer space, offering Lord Ganesha flowers, durva grass, and sandalwood, and chanting the mantra “Om Gan Ganapataye Namaha.” The evening concludes with the recitation of the Sakat Chauth Katha, a story highlighting Lord Ganesha’s devotion and wisdom.

The Katha recounts how Ganesha, despite having a mouse as his mount, cleverly circumvented Kartikeya’s challenge to complete a circumambulation of the earth first. Ganesha’s devotion to his parents, Shiva and Parvati, earned him blessings and established the tradition of observing Sakat Chauth for divine grace and the well-being of children. The festival is observed with great faith and signifies the importance of devotion and seeking blessings from Lord Ganesha.
