MUMBAI, INDIA (January 17, 2025) – Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is recovering after a knife attack at his Mumbai residence early Thursday morning. Police have detained a suspect in connection with the incident.
The attack occurred around 2:30 AM at the Satguru Sharan building in Bandra. Khan, along with his wife Kareena Kapoor, their two children, and several staff members, were home at the time. A staff nurse, Eliyama Philip, initially encountered the intruder who demanded ₹1 crore (approximately $120,000 USD). When she screamed, the intruder attacked Khan, inflicting six stab wounds, including one to the neck. Khan’s son, Ibrahim Ali Khan, rushed his injured father to Lilavati Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and is now reported to be out of danger. The nurse and a domestic help also sustained minor blade injuries.
Police say the intruder, described as a young man wearing a brown T-shirt and red scarf, did not force entry but likely sneaked in during the night. CCTV footage shows the suspect fleeing the scene at 2:33 AM, armed with a wooden stick and a hacksaw blade. Police have recovered a portion of the blade from Khan’s back and are searching for the remainder.
The suspect, last seen near Bandra railway station, is believed to have taken a local train towards Vasai Virar. Twenty police teams are actively searching for him, utilizing technical data, forensic evidence, and a network of informants. The crime branch is examining mobile phone activity in the area at the time of the attack.
The incident is being investigated as a possible burglary attempt. The detained suspect is currently being questioned at the Bandra police station.
