**New Delhi** – Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal today denounced the Ayushman Bharat health scheme as “the biggest scam in the country,” following a Supreme Court decision. The Supreme Court stayed a Delhi High Court order that mandated the Delhi government sign an agreement with the Centre to implement the scheme in the capital.
Kejriwal, speaking at a press conference announcing new AAP election promises for students, welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision, claiming it validated his party’s long-held position against the scheme. He predicted that future investigations would expose the scheme’s alleged fraudulent nature.
The dispute centers on the PM-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), already implemented in 33 states and union territories. The Delhi High Court, in a December 24th order, directed the AAP government to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Union health ministry by January 5th to ensure Delhi residents weren’t denied benefits. The AAP government subsequently appealed the order to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court’s stay effectively halts the implementation of the scheme in Delhi for the time being. The AAP government has been consistently at odds with the Centre regarding the scheme’s implementation in the capital.
