Fri Jan 17 15:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Trump Urges Ramaswamy to Consider Ohio Senate Seat

**Columbus, OH** – President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly urging Vivek Ramaswamy, his former presidential campaign rival, to fill Ohio’s vacant U.S. Senate seat, according to sources familiar with the discussions. The seat opened last week with the resignation of Vice President-elect JD Vance.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is tasked with appointing a temporary replacement who will serve alongside Senator Bernie Moreno until November 2026, when a special election will be held to determine who fills the remainder of Vance’s term, expiring in 2028.

While Ramaswamy previously withdrew his name from consideration, he’s reportedly back in the running and recently met with Governor DeWine. This follows a social media controversy where Ramaswamy criticized American mediocrity.

Other Ohio Republicans vying for the appointment include Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted, considered a frontrunner, and former Ohio Republican Party chair Jane Timken. Husted is reportedly weighing the Senate appointment against a potential 2026 gubernatorial run.

Ramaswamy, a Harvard and Yale Law graduate who founded a pharmaceutical company and an asset management firm, is a rising star in the Republican party and a close Trump ally. He currently leads the newly formed, unofficial Department of Government Efficiency. His future role with that group remains uncertain should he accept the Senate appointment. A spokesperson for Governor DeWine declined to comment on the ongoing discussions.
