Fri Jan 17 17:33:08 UTC 2025: **BJP’s Chhattisgarh President Kiran Singh Deo Re-elected Unopposed**
Raipur, Chhattisgarh (January 18, 2025) – Kiran Singh Deo has been re-elected as the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Chhattisgarh unit for a three-year term. His reappointment, announced Friday by national general secretary Vinod Tawde, follows his unopposed election after being the sole candidate nominated.
Deo, a first-time MLA and non-tribal representative from the Bastar region, was initially appointed in December 2023, surprising many. Speculation had mounted in recent months regarding his potential elevation to the state cabinet, leading to rumors of a replacement. Despite this, and despite the party considering an Other Backward Class (OBC) candidate, the BJP opted to retain Deo due to his relatively young age, representation of the Bastar region (balancing the Chief Minister’s Sarguja region base), and his reportedly smooth working relationship with the government.
Deo’s leadership has overseen the party’s success in the Lok Sabha elections, and he now looks forward to the upcoming local body polls. However, party sources clarified that organizational aspects of these elections fall under the State General Secretary (Organisation), not the president.
Following the announcement, Deo expressed gratitude to the party leadership and workers, urging unity ahead of the local body elections. A BJP member for over 25 years, he brings a background in student politics and prior roles including Mayor of Jagdalpur Municipal Corporation.
