**Kannur, Kerala – January 17, 2025** – The Kerala Agriculture Department announced a ₹2,375 crore, five-year plan to boost the state’s agricultural sector. The initiative, unveiled by Agriculture Minister P. Prasad at the Irikkur Farmers’ Association’s ‘Agri Fest 25,’ includes significant investments in rubber replanting (₹250 crore across 30,000 hectares), addressing the wild animal menace (₹27 crore), and promoting value-added agriculture.
The plan will also introduce AI-powered devices from start-ups on a trial basis within six months and facilitate business-to-business (B2B) meetings to improve market access for farmers. Minister Prasad emphasized the importance of secondary agriculture, urging farmers to increase profits by processing their produce into value-added products such as coconut oil, cassava chips, and banana flour. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including K. Sudhakaran, MP, and Sajeev Joseph, MLA.
