Sun Jan 12 11:34:14 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka High Court Allows Bangalore University Exams to Proceed Despite Scheduling Conflict

**Bengaluru, January 12, 2025** – The Karnataka High Court has ruled that Bangalore University (BU) can proceed with its B.Com first, third, and fifth-semester exams, scheduled to begin January 13th, despite a conflict with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) exams. The court overturned a single judge’s earlier order to reschedule the BU exams, which overlapped with the ICAI’s Chartered Accountants (CA) foundation and intermediate exams held nationwide between January 11th and 21st.

The court acknowledged that BU should have considered student petitions highlighting the scheduling conflict. However, the division bench clarified that the court lacked the authority to reschedule university exams, a matter within the university’s discretion. The court deemed the single judge’s order to reschedule for the five students who filed the petition an improper interference.

The petitioners, five students enrolled in both the BU B.Com program and the ICAI CA course, argued that BU disregarded their December 18th representation requesting a change in exam dates. They pointed out that the ICAI timetable was released in September 2024, while BU announced its schedule only on December 13th, creating the conflict. Their lawyer argued that BU should prioritize student well-being, especially given the recurring issue of overlapping exam schedules.

Bangalore University’s lawyer admitted the university didn’t act on the student’s representation but argued that last-minute changes would affect approximately 35,000 B.Com students. The court adjourned further hearing until January 13th.
