Sun Jan 12 11:18:25 UTC 2025: ## BCCI Elects Devjit Saikia as Secretary, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as Treasurer

**Mumbai, January 12, 2025** – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) today in Mumbai, electing Devjit Saikia as its new secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as its new treasurer. Both were elected unopposed.

Saikia, who served as interim secretary following Jay Shah’s appointment as International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman on December 1st, now assumes the role permanently. Bhatia succeeds Ashish Shelar, who recently took office as a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government.

The deadline for nominations closed last week, with the withdrawal deadline concluding Tuesday afternoon. The final list of candidates, prepared by former Chief Election Commissioner of India Achal Kumar Jyoti, included only Saikia and Bhatia.

Saikia, 55, hails from Assam and is a former cricketer, having played four first-class matches for Assam. A lawyer by profession, he boasts significant administrative experience, including serving as the general secretary of a cricket club under Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He later worked with Sarma in the Assam Cricket Association (ACA), rising to the position of secretary in 2019 before joining the BCCI in 2022 as a joint secretary. He previously held the post of Advocate General of Assam, becoming the youngest person to ever hold the position at age 52.

Bhatia, from Chhattisgarh, is a former president of the Chhattisgarh Cricket Sangh (CSCS) and the son of prominent industrialist Baldev Singh Bhatia, also a former CSCS president.
