Mon Jan 06 11:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Severe Storms and Record Temperature Drop Hit Baton Rouge Area

**Baton Rouge, LA** – A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is sweeping across the Baton Rouge area tonight, prompting a Tornado Watch until 9 PM for areas along and north of the I-10/12 corridor. The National Weather Service warns of damaging winds and the possibility of isolated tornadoes. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to subside around midnight.

Following the storms, a dramatic temperature plunge is forecast. After a record-breaking high of the low 80s on Sunday, temperatures are expected to plummet to the mid-40s on Monday, with overnight lows near freezing and wind chills in the 20s. The cold snap is expected to persist, with temperatures unlikely to reach 50 degrees until possibly Friday.

A low-pressure system developing in the Western Gulf of Mexico later this week could bring 1-2 inches of rain Thursday evening into Friday. No wintry precipitation is anticipated locally.
