**Madurai, January 6, 2025** – The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) marked its 78th Foundation Day in Madurai on Monday with a day-long event focused on sustainable development goals (SDGs). Over 200 representatives from various industries, laboratories, and industrial associations attended.

The event featured technical sessions covering topics such as sustainable growth through continuous quality improvement, SDG implementation in the industrial sector, sustainability in the pulp and paper industry, and energy-saving methods. Speakers highlighted the crucial role of BIS in maintaining product quality and consumer safety.

N. Jegatheesan, president of the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, emphasized the importance of educating traders and manufacturers about BIS developments. S.D. Dayanand, Senior Director and Head of BIS Madurai, provided a historical overview of the organization. Joint Director Hemalatha P. Panicker discussed BIS activities and the vital contribution of industries in formulating internationally accepted Indian standards to boost the nation’s trade.

Participants concluded the event by taking a “Quality Pledge,” reaffirming their commitment to BIS standards.
