Sun Jan 05 04:59:17 UTC 2025: ## Australia Clinches Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Defeats India in Sydney Test
**Sydney, Australia (January 5, 2025)** – Australia has ended India’s decade-long dominance of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, securing a convincing 6-wicket victory in the fifth and final Test match in Sydney. The win gives Australia a 3-1 series victory.
Chasing a modest 162 runs for victory, Australia reached the target in just 27 overs, losing only six wickets. Travis Head (34*) and debutant Beau Webster (39*) remained unbeaten, guiding their team to victory. Webster, who scored 57 in the first innings, was the top scorer for Australia in the second innings as well.
India’s second innings collapsed for 157 runs in 39.5 overs. The loss of captain Jasprit Bumrah to injury earlier in the match significantly hampered India’s performance. While Australia initially lost three quick wickets, Usman Khawaja (41) steadied the ship before Head and Webster ensured a comfortable win. Scott Boland took 6 wickets for 45 runs and Pat Cummins took 3 for 44. For India, Rishabh Pant top-scored with 61 runs in the second innings. In the first innings, India had a slender 4-run lead after bowling out Australia for 181.
The Australian victory also secures their place in the World Test Championship final, where they will face Temba Bavuma’s South Africa. Boland was named Player of the Match, while Bumrah received the Player of the Series award. The last time Australia won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy was in 2014-15.
