**New Orleans, LA –** A suspected terrorist attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans on New Year’s Day, January 1st, 2025, left 15 people dead and over 30 injured. The incident occurred at approximately 3:15 am when a pickup truck, driven by 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar, plowed into a crowd of revelers.

Jabbar, a US citizen and Texas resident, was killed in a shootout with police following the attack. Two officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire but are reported to be in stable condition. Authorities recovered weapons from the truck, including a handgun, an AR-style rifle, multiple suspected improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and an ISIS flag.

The FBI is leading the investigation and has classified the incident as an act of terrorism. They are actively pursuing leads to determine whether Jabbar acted alone and to identify any potential accomplices or affiliations with terrorist organizations. Early reports suggest Jabbar, a US Army veteran, may have been experiencing financial difficulties.

Among the victims identified are Reggie Hunter (37) of Baton Rouge and Nikyra Cheyenne Dedeaux (18) of Gulfport, Mississippi. The injured are being treated at five area hospitals.

President Joe Biden addressed the nation, stating that all available resources are being deployed to ensure public safety and that law enforcement is investigating a potential connection between the New Orleans attack and a recent Tesla Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas.

The attack caused significant disruption in New Orleans. Bourbon Street remains under heightened security, and the Sugar Bowl playoff game was briefly delayed due to safety concerns. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry condemned the attack and urged prayers for the victims and first responders. The investigation is ongoing.
