Wed Dec 25 18:55:07 UTC 2024: ## Chennai to Get New Pillar Clocks and RO Plant in T. Nagar Upgrade

**CHENNAI, December 26, 2024** – The Greater Chennai Corporation is set to enhance the T. Nagar area with the installation of two unique pillar clocks and a new Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment plant. This initiative, undertaken under the Namakku Naame Thittam Scheme, will see the placement of four-faced clocks at G.N. Chetty Road and Thiyagaraya Road Pedestrian Plaza.

Each clock, featuring a 3-foot diameter dial and a 12-foot mild steel pillar, will incorporate a musical bell that chimes with a Thirukkural recitation at 8 a.m. daily. The design blends modern and antique aesthetics. The project also includes the installation of a ₹2.5 lakh RO plant on Thiyagaraya Road to provide clean drinking water to the public, using water extracted from a local borewell.

The total cost for these improvements is estimated at ₹9.9 lakh. A contractor with prior experience in similar projects has already been identified, and the Corporation will assign timekeepers and maintenance personnel. Work is expected to commence soon.
