**Thane, Maharashtra –** A 35-year-old man, Vishal Gawli, and his 25-year-old wife, Sakshi Gawli, have been arrested in connection with the abduction, rape, and murder of a 13-year-old girl in Thane district. The incident, which occurred on Monday, December 23rd, has sparked widespread outrage and calls for the death penalty.

Gawli allegedly kidnapped the girl near her home, took her to his residence, assaulted and raped her, before killing her and dumping her body near a cemetery in Bhiwandi. He was identified through CCTV footage showing him purchasing liquor at a bar. A six-team police operation, involving Buldhana Police, led to his arrest on Wednesday, December 25th. Sakshi Gawli, implicated as an accomplice, was apprehended outside their Kalyan home.

Vishal Gawli, a known history-sheeter with previous charges including molestation and assault, was recently released on bail in a POCSO case. Police are investigating his history of three prior molestation cases involving two women and a minor girl. He was apprehended in Shegaon after visiting a salon to alter his appearance.

The case has drawn significant political attention. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has instructed the Thane Superintendent of Police to pursue the death penalty for both accused. Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde met the victim’s family and assured them of government support. Opposition parties have criticized the rising number of crimes against women in the region.
