Wed Dec 25 06:49:55 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Government Denies AAP’s Pre-Election Welfare Schemes
**New Delhi, December 25, 2024** – A major controversy erupted in Delhi on Wednesday as the city’s Women and Child Development and Health departments publicly denied the existence of two flagship welfare schemes promised by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ahead of upcoming Assembly elections. The AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, had launched a high-profile registration drive for the “Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana” (offering ₹2,100 per month to women) and the “Sanjeevani Yojana” (free treatment for the elderly).
Both departments issued notices warning citizens against providing personal information to individuals or groups collecting data for these purported schemes, labeling such activities as fraudulent. The notices specifically stated that no such schemes have been officially notified by the Delhi government. While the Mahila Samman Yojana was mentioned in the 2024-25 budget with a lower initial amount, the increased ₹2,100 figure was a recent campaign promise.
AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal reacted angrily, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating a smear campaign to derail the schemes and even threatening the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Atishi. He made these allegations on X (formerly Twitter). These claims followed BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj’s statement that the Health Secretary confirmed the non-existence of the Sanjeevani Yojana.
The AAP’s ambitious schemes, intended to boost electoral prospects, have now become a point of contention, with the government disavowing any knowledge of their implementation. The conflicting statements have created significant uncertainty and raised concerns about the potential for voter manipulation and fraud.
