Mon Dec 16 22:20:00 UTC 2024: **FBI Informant Pleads Guilty to Lying About Biden Family, Exposing False Corruption Claims**
Washington, D.C. – An FBI informant, Alexander Smirnov, has struck a plea deal with Special Counsel David Weiss, admitting to fabricating allegations of bribery involving the Biden family and Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company. Smirnov will plead guilty to four charges, including tax evasion and obstructing justice, facing a potential prison sentence of four to six years.
Smirnov’s false claims, initially made in 2020, alleged illicit payments from Burisma to both President Joe Biden (referred to as “Public Official 1” in court documents) while he was Vice President, and his son Hunter Biden, who served on Burisma’s board. These allegations, repeated in 2023, fueled conservative attacks against the Bidens.
The plea agreement explicitly states that Smirnov’s accusations were fabrications, revealing that he transformed “routine and unextraordinary business contacts” into bribery allegations after expressing bias against President Biden. Smirnov’s plea effectively dismantles a key element of the accusations against the Biden family.
Separately, Smirnov admitted to significant tax evasion, failing to report over two million dollars in income between 2017 and 2022. He used a significant portion of these unreported funds on luxury purchases, including a Las Vegas condo and a Bentley lease.
This development is likely to conclude Special Counsel Weiss’ investigation into the Bidens. This comes after Hunter Biden’s conviction on tax and gun charges, for which President Biden issued a pre-sentencing pardon. The Justice Department has declined to comment on the matter. A court date for Smirnov’s plea hearing has yet to be set.
