Mon Dec 16 12:31:03 UTC 2024: ## Interstellar’s IMAX Re-Release Soars, But Sky-High Ticket Prices Leave Fans Grounded

**Columbus, OH –** Christopher Nolan’s epic science fiction film, *Interstellar*, is back on the big screen in IMAX format, delighting fans but also causing sticker shock. Following a successful limited re-release, the film returned to Columbus theaters today, December 13th. However, the high demand has driven up ticket prices on the secondary market to over $200 in some cases, leaving many unable to secure a seat.

The film, starring Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey, initially saw a limited re-release on December 6th across 166 screens, grossing $4.5 million. This success prompted further screenings at AMC theaters in Grover City and Easton. According to Variety, some tickets have been resold for as much as $215, with initial IMAX screenings selling out within minutes, generating a staggering average of $70,000 per theater.

While the re-release has been a triumph in the US, *Interstellar* faced setbacks in India. The film missed its planned IMAX re-release due to the dominance of *Pushpa: The Rule*, which secured all available IMAX screens. This decision sparked outrage amongst Nolan fans. However, reports suggest an Indian re-release is now planned for early 2025.

Director Christopher Nolan expressed his gratitude for the enthusiastic response to the film’s re-release, stating to the Associated Press, “I was just so gratified by the response. It’s really thrilling when people respond to your work at any point. But 10 years later, to have new audiences coming and experiencing it in the way that we’d originally intended it on the big IMAX screens…it’s really rewarding.” While the film’s return is a victory for fans, the exorbitant resale prices serve as a stark reminder of the challenges accessing highly anticipated cinematic events.
