Sat Dec 14 11:10:31 UTC 2024: ## DMK Leader Accuses BJP of Attacking Constitution’s Secular Fabric

**New Delhi, December 14, 2024** – DMK leader A. Raja launched a scathing attack on the BJP Saturday, alleging the ruling party would have altered the Constitution’s Preamble had it not included the words “secular” and “socialist” during the Emergency. Speaking in the Lok Sabha during a debate on the Constitution, Raja challenged the BJP to detail the RSS and Hindu Mahasabha’s contributions to the document’s creation.

Raja argued that while the Emergency’s MISA (Maintenance of Internal Security Act) assaulted democracy, the current BJP government is undermining the Constitution’s fundamental structure as defined by the Supreme Court in the Kesavananda Bharti case. He claimed the BJP’s rule has jeopardized democracy, secularism, the rule of law, equality, federalism, and judicial impartiality.

Responding to Union Minister Pralhad Joshi’s mention of DMK founder M. Karunanidhi’s arrest during the Emergency, Raja acknowledged past grievances with the Congress but emphasized the DMK’s current alliance to uphold the Constitution. He also highlighted the Congress’s silence during his and K. Kanimozhi’s imprisonment in the 2G case.

Several of Raja’s remarks prompted a disruption in the House, leading to objections from BJP members and the chair ruling that those specific comments would not be included in the parliamentary record.
