**NEW DELHI, December 14, 2024** – IndiGo is facing significant disruption on its Istanbul-Delhi route after a technical fault grounded one of its leased Boeing 777 aircraft. The airline has cancelled at least two flights this week, stranding hundreds of passengers in Istanbul.
The 500-seater aircraft, leased from Turkish Airlines, remains grounded in Istanbul, forcing IndiGo to deploy two smaller narrow-body planes to ferry passengers to New Delhi. The airline confirmed that alternative arrangements have been made for passengers, including hotel accommodation, lounge access, and food vouchers.
However, frustrated passengers have taken to social media to express their anger, reporting that over 500 people have been waiting for flights for more than 35 hours with inadequate support from IndiGo. One passenger, @koushikbhuma, tweeted about the lack of accommodation and food provided to stranded passengers despite paying significant sums for their tickets.
IndiGo officials stated that some passengers affected by the December 12th cancellation were accommodated and flown back the following day, but that arrangements for the remaining passengers were still underway. This is the second cancellation from Istanbul this week, highlighting operational challenges for the airline on this busy international route.
