**Karur, Tamil Nadu, December 10, 2024** – With Karthikai Deepam, a major Hindu festival, just five days away (December 13th), potters in Karur and surrounding areas are working tirelessly to meet the high demand for clay lamps. The annual festival sees widespread use of these traditional lamps, leading to a surge in production weeks in advance.

Production is particularly concentrated in areas like Anna Vai, Kalipalayam, Thanthondrimalai, Lalapettai Kodinkal Street, and Mayanur. Potters are utilizing electric motors to mass-produce various sizes of lamps, including single-faced, five-faced, and smaller varieties commonly used in temples daily.

Currently, lamps are being sold across various locations in Karur including the Kalyana Pasupatheeswarar Temple, Uzhavar Sandhai (farmers market), Jawahar Bazaar, Coimbatore Road, Vengaimedu, Thanthondrimalai, and Pasupathipalayam. Prices range from ₹80 for 100 small lamps to ₹120 for larger lamps, with five-faced lamps priced at ₹10 each. The increased production reflects the significant cultural importance of Karthikai Deepam and the continued tradition of using clay lamps in celebrations.
