Mon Dec 09 08:48:05 UTC 2024: ## Parliament Adjourned Amidst Planned Bill Passage

**New Delhi, [Date]** – The Winter Session of the Indian Parliament, currently in its third week, has been repeatedly adjourned today. Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have been adjourned multiple times, with the Lok Sabha currently adjourned until 3 pm. While three key bills – the Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024, the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024 – are slated for passage, limited progress has been made thus far.

The session, which began on November 25th and is scheduled to conclude on December 20th, has been significantly disrupted in its first two weeks by opposition protests, primarily led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. These protests centered around issues such as the Manipur unrest and the Sambhal violence.

The ruling BJP has accused Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party of orchestrating these disruptions to undermine the economy and democracy. Last week, however, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar addressed the Rajya Sabha, outlining India’s stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict, condemning terrorism while acknowledging the right of countries to respond, albeit with a focus on minimizing civilian casualties. Despite this statement, the current adjournments suggest ongoing tensions and a challenging path ahead for the remaining session.
