Fri Dec 06 02:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Knicks on Verge of Frontcourt Boost as Achiuwa Nears Return, Shamet Resignation Imminent

**NEW YORK, NY** – The New York Knicks are poised for a significant boost to their roster depth. Head coach Tom Thibodeau announced Monday that power forward Precious Achiuwa is nearing a return from a preseason hamstring injury, potentially debuting within the next week. Achiuwa, acquired last season, averaged 7.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks last year and is expected to provide much-needed frontcourt support alongside Karl-Anthony Towns. Thibodeau hinted at the possibility of utilizing dual-big lineups featuring Achiuwa and Towns.

Achiuwa’s return will alleviate the pressure on Jericho Sims, who has been filling in as the primary backup center in the absence of Mitchell Robinson (injured until late December or January).

Meanwhile, the Knicks are also set to re-sign sharpshooter Landry Shamet upon his recovery from a preseason shoulder injury. This was expected prior to his injury and remains a high priority for the organization. To make room on the roster, veteran Matt Ryan is expected to be waived and re-signed to a two-way contract. The Knicks currently have a vacant spot on their 15-man roster, but salary cap constraints prevent them from offering both Shamet and Ryan standard NBA contracts.

The positive updates surrounding Achiuwa and Shamet provide a welcome boost to a Knicks team looking to improve upon its performance from last season.
