Fri Nov 15 22:50:00 UTC 2024: ## NC MP Warns Congress Against Misinterpreting J&K Assembly Resolution on Article 370
**Srinagar, November 16, 2024** – Tensions are rising within the ruling coalition in Jammu and Kashmir after the National Conference (NC) accused the Indian National Congress (INC) of misrepresenting a recent state assembly resolution regarding Article 370.
The J&K Legislative Assembly passed a resolution on November 6th reaffirming the importance of the region’s special status and expressing concern over its revocation. The resolution called for dialogue with the Government of India to restore these guarantees, including Article 370 and 35A.
However, National Conference MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi issued a strong rebuke to both Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hamid Karra for their statements downplaying the resolution’s significance. Mehdi asserted that the resolution clearly demands the restoration of all pre-1953 guarantees. He warned that any attempt by the Congress, or even within the NC, to misinterpret the resolution will be rejected by the people.
Kharge, responding to BJP accusations about the Congress’s stance on Article 370, stated that no Congress leader had advocated for its reinstatement. Karra echoed this sentiment, claiming the resolution did not demand the restoration of Article 370, only statehood.
This disagreement comes as the NC and Congress, coalition partners after winning 49 out of 90 seats in the recent J&K elections, navigate their alliance. The Congress, having won only six seats and holding no ministerial positions, is facing internal pressure. The differing interpretations of the crucial resolution highlight potential cracks in their fragile coalition.
