Fri Nov 15 12:36:48 IST 2024: ## Tonk SDM Assault Case: Accused in Custody, Supporters Continue Protests

**Tonk, Rajasthan:** The man accused of assaulting Tonk SDM Ankit Chaudhary, Naresh Meena, was arrested on Thursday after days of unrest in the region. Meena, an independent candidate in the recent by-election, had slapped the SDM during election duty on November 13.

Meena’s supporters have been creating chaos since his arrest, setting fire to highways, blocking roads, and demanding his release. The situation remains tense, with heavy police deployment throughout Tonk to maintain peace and prevent any further escalation of violence.

Meena, who had initially fled the scene after the assault, returned to his supporters and resumed protesting. The police eventually apprehended him from Samraavata village. He will be presented before the court today, under heavy security.

The Rajasthan Police have registered over 25 cases against Meena, while four cases have been filed in connection with the violence caused by his supporters.

The incident has sparked outrage amongst the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RAS) officers’ association, with its President, Mahavir Kharari, demanding the provision of gun-men for RAS officers. The association has also requested a meeting with the Chief Minister to discuss the matter.

While the situation in Tonk remains volatile, the police are working to restore order and ensure the safety of citizens.
