New Delhi, [Date] – President Droupadi Murmu hosted a lavish banquet on Monday evening in honour of the newly sworn-in Chief Justice of India (CJI), Sanjiv Khanna. The event, held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre, was a celebration of Western India’s rich cultural heritage.
Guests were treated to a feast of traditional delicacies and a captivating musical performance featuring rare folk instruments. The menu showcased iconic dishes from the region, while tables were adorned with vibrant Patola and Paithani textiles from Gujarat and Maharashtra, respectively.
The musical highlight of the evening was a live performance by the Rashtrapati Bhavan naval band, joined by guest artists. Together they showcased the rich musical heritage of Rajasthan, playing folk melodies like Kesariya Balam and other regional styles such as Maand, Ghoomar, Panihari, and Pabuji ka Phad. Rare instruments like the ravanhatha, kamaicha, and khanjari added to the evening’s unique musical tapestry.
The banquet was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, former CJI D.Y. Chandrachud, and current and former judges of the Supreme Court and Chief Justices of High Courts.
